The following was posted on Compadres by Bill Denton Minister of Rodenberg church of Christ Biloxi MS. Bill worked with us today at Kensington Woods.
Bill Denton
I'd like to commend Mike Baumgartner and the disaster assistance work he and his team are doing in Hattiesburg, MS. Well over 700 people got a free meal today, and lots of people came to the building for food and other supplies. A bunch of happy ladies steadily packed meal bags, and graciously allowed me to help out today. I got to ride with a lady named Minnie! She's a retired elementary school teacher. Literally, knows everybody in town (evidence by the fact she called just about everybody we say around town by name!). The destruction is shocking. Reminded me of Hwy 90 along the coast after Katrina. Only difference is that in Hattiesburg it's rather selective. Still, I'm amazed at such total, complete destruction of houses and buildings and no deaths! I'm sure Mike would appreciate any help if any of you could manage a day or more. I can tell you, packing that many meal sacks is, by itself, quite a chore! Mike is a member of Compadres, I'm sure. Contact him for information. And if you know anybody who would like to make a donation, they can use the money.
Today 727 meals were served, many other supplies were handed out and work crews did cleanup. Shower trailer was delivered and setup. First photo below shows our distribution sequence. First people stop in front of the church at registration tent, than continue to the food pickup area. Next to the water station than end up at the cleaning supplies they never have to get out of their car. 2nd photo is tool trailer from College Church of Christ, Sercy AR, which has a group of volunteers here helping.

Disaster Assistance Mission- Adairsville GA Tornado
I have been talking with leaders of the Adairsville Church of Christ. The church building has been damaged. I am waiting for Elders to find out how long power will be out in the town. They are waiting on update from City Manager for that information. If it is going to be out for a few days than I will take the Mobile Headquarters there tonight and start cooking meals tomorrow. They are going to get back with me in a couple of hours.

Disaster Assistance Mission/Hurricane Sandy
By Rebecca Aponte-Young
Disaster Assistance has donated $3,000 towards the purchase of StopandShop Gift Cards to be handed out to Sandy victims to help feed their families. The Long Island Church of Christ are distributing them to the people and families that are currently studying the Bible. Here are a few pictures that have been captured, but there have been many more distributed than you can see here.
Bible Studies continue to happen and the Gospel of Jesus is flowing out along with the material help and hand we are giving many in partnership with many brethren who have joined in this effort. May His name and truth continue to be made known among the nations! By Long Island Church of Christ.
There is an ongoing relief effort in Coney Island, Island park and the Rockaways, praise God! As people are getting back on their feet and clean up and reconstruction is finished, we are now giving out Washers/Dryers, refrigerators, Stoves, COuches, tables, bedroom furniture, etc. Here are some of the many families that are being blessed with these items sent to the Long Island Church of Christ by the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort in TN. Stephen Aponte is heading up the distribution of these appliances and furniture. Pray for his strength and support to fulfill this mission.. Kevin Lynch has been his right hand man in making these deliveries. Praise God! If you know someone who wlost everything in the storm please comment here and we can help them too..Please keep praying for this effort. Thank you!

Christmas for the Kids of Hurricane Sandy

In conjunction with Long Island Church of Christ we are going to be giving gift cards from Toys R Us to the kids parents so they can purchase Christmas presents. We are giving Tors R Us cards to better assure that the card is used to purchase something for the child. Long Island CoC has between 350 - 400 families that they are working with, the children of these families are the ones we will be helping. You to can still help just click on donate button to the right, this will take you to a secure paypal site. All you need to do is follow the instructions. Please donate $ 25, 50, 100 or more. We will get the gift cards and Long Island CoC members will deliver them. Help us bring a smile to a child Christmas morning.

Long Island Church of Christ Follow Up
Taken in part from Rebecca Aponte-Young's FB post. We have entered phase two of this work. We are no longer setting up tables and serving hundreds of people at a time in the streets of Far Rockaway or Coney Island. Instead we have taken the 300+ names that we collected while doing the phase one relief effort, and we are calling them one by one. And as we call, our list keeps growing. There are about 60 Christians from the Long Island Church of Christ involved in making phone calls, arranging deliveries, making deliveries, doing Bible studies in these people's homes, praying with people, etc. We are going door to door, case by case and delivering the Churches of Christ Disaster relief Effort goods/suppies to individual families, seeking to meet their personal needs and to get opportunites to share Jesus with them. Some of us are helping people find jobs and places to live. Many, many bible studies are being conducted. There have been a few Community Bible studies, where several people who live in a particular community are invited to come hear a gospel presentation. There is a tremendous work being done over here. Please pray for everyone's strength, that we may not grow weary in doing good, and that souls will be won over to the Lord. There is a Community Bible study today at our sister Jackie Lynch's home.
Disaster Assistance Hurricane Sandy
Photo below is two of the Elders from East Main Church of Christ, Murfreesboro TN that came to pick up the trailer they had left here for storage. I sent back our two largest generators with them so Don can have them repaired. Only one of our 4 generators is still working. Running on generators 24/7 has taken its toll on them. Our meal count is now 22,388. Long Island and Far Rockaway Churches of Christ have delivered over 10 semi loads of other supplies to many different areas. Long Island CoC has over 350 families that they are doing follow with.
